Having family members employed by the family office is common. It can be of huge benefit and not without its challenges. I have seen it go very well, creating engaged and upskilled family members. I have seen it go awry, with conflict and fracturing of the office.
In the latest Family Office Sherpa Podcast, I dig into the things that should be noted when deciding or reviewing the family participant.
· The Optics for internal and external stakeholders
· Pay and KPIs
· Credibility and Skill Set
· Managing risk
· Work ethic and resilience
· Education and upskilling opportunities
· Good governance on contracts
· Make it impactful, not "busy work"
· No protected employees
· Is it sustainable
I also provide some detail on how to get family members involved as we try create a sense of ownership.
